Why did I get the flu… even though I got the Flu shot??

I just read a very articulate article about the Influenza vaccine.

I really wanted to write about it here but then realized that this would be pointless if ONE HUGE misconception wasn’t cleared up FIRST!

Influenza is NOT the 24 hour Flu [which is truly a gastroenteritis caused by a TOTALLY different bacterial or virus]

Influenza is characterized by:
Fever over 100.4 F (38 C)
Aching muscles, especially in your back, arms and legs
Chills and sweats
Dry, persistent cough
Fatigue and weakness
Nasal congestion
Sore throat

24 hour Flu is characterized by:
Watery, usually nonbloody diarrhea — bloody diarrhea usually means you have another bug (shigella)
Abdominal cramps and pain
Nausea, vomiting or both
Occasional muscle aches or headache
Low-grade fever

The Flu season [influenza] has begun. And according to Rodney E. Rohde Ph.D, this year is going to be a difficult time.

The H3N2 has mutated and created a few pathogenic sub-types.
